Conference Themes: The conference aims to initiate research and discussions on Urban Transformations at different levels and scales in an increasingly interconnected world. This conference’s theme of Multilayerism holds particular relevance to cities and urban systems with long histories of existence and trans-regional exchanges. Hyderabad is one such settlement with many socio-cultural and politico-economic hues. Such tendencies constitute invariable complexities for functional efficiency and governance, specially when globalization and Foreign Direct Investments in earmarked Exclusive Economic Zones & Special Economic Zones constitute factors of unchecked urban sprawl on the one hand and structure of the urban systems on the other. The sub-themes identified for the conference fall within the framework set by the I.G.U.’s Commission on Emerging Urban Transformations.
Conference Structure: The conference includes five days of deliberations and local tours followed by five days of excursion. The trend of four sessions per day, each paper given 15-minutes with adequate time for discussions will be followed. Local field trips and excursions to be conducted and formal and informal social events for networking and information exchange. A workshop is proposed, to focus on the conference theme in order to lend clarity to the issues involved, the approaches feasible for implementation, and the models that can be constructed.
